FingerTrip Maps Importer — privacy policy

FingerTrip Maps Importer is a Chrome extension that copies your own Google Maps saved lists into your FingerTrip account as private lists. This policy covers the extension; the rest of this site is covered by the Privacy page.

What the extension handles

Your saved-list data. When you press Scan, the extension reads the Saved → Lists screen you have open in Google Maps: your list names, the places in them, their addresses and coordinates, and any notes you wrote on those places. This is read only after you act, and only from that screen.

Website content. Reading that screen means reading the text and links Google Maps renders on it. No other site is read, and no other part of Google Maps is read.

Your FingerTrip sign-in. Signing in stores a FingerTrip session token in the browser's local extension storage, so the extension can write to your account. Your Google password is never seen, read or stored.

Your name and profile picture. Your FingerTrip session carries the display name and picture from the Google account you signed in with. They are shown in the extension so you can confirm which account you are importing into.

What the extension never does

• It never reads your Google password or your cookies.
• It never reads your browsing history.
• It never runs on, or reads, any site other than Google Maps.
• It contains no advertising, no analytics and no tracking of any kind.
• It loads no remote code: everything it runs ships inside the extension package.

Where your data goes

A scan stays on your own machine until you choose which lists to import. When you import, the lists and places you selected are sent to the FingerTrip API at app.thefingertrip.com and saved to your account as private lists. Signing in goes to FingerTrip’s authentication provider, Supabase.

Nothing is sent anywhere else. FingerTrip Inc. does not sell your data or transfer it to third parties, does not use it for any purpose unrelated to importing your lists, and never uses it to determine creditworthiness or for lending.

What is stored locally

Three things are kept in the browser’s extension storage, on your own machine: your FingerTrip session, the snapshot of your most recent scan so you can review it before deciding to import, and a per-place checkpoint so an interrupted import can resume without repeating completed work.

Pressing “Clear results” in the side panel removes the scan and the checkpoint. Removing the extension removes all of it.

How places are matched

Each place from Google Maps has to be matched to a place in FingerTrip. Where Google provides a place identifier it is used directly. Otherwise the extension searches by name and coordinates, and when no result is a confident match the place is set aside for you to review rather than imported as a guess.

Deleting your data

Lists you imported belong to your FingerTrip account and can be deleted there, in the FingerTrip app. Data held locally by the extension is removed by clearing results, or by uninstalling the extension.

Permissions and why they exist

• Google Maps hosts — to read the lists screen you opened, and the same-origin responses that screen itself requests, after you press Scan.
• app.thefingertrip.com — to write the lists you selected to your own FingerTrip account.
• Supabase hosts — to sign you in and refresh your session.
• activeTab and scripting — to address the one Google Maps tab you are importing from, and to place the extension’s own packaged content script in it.
• identity — to complete the sign-in redirect for your FingerTrip account.
• sidePanel and storage — to keep the review step and progress visible during a long import, and to hold the session, scan and checkpoint locally.
